I've been involved in music since I was old enough to sing. My earliest memories are of listening to Mozart and John Denver. I was never allowed to have a guitar growing up, so most of what I did was sing. I worked my way through choir and into a mens quartet where I sang tenor. My musical life felt very incomplete, and I knew that I had to have a guitar. I bought a warped up acoustic for $35 and began writing the next day.

Since then I've had the pleasure of learning from some of the most talented people I know. Singing and writing music has become such a large part of my ability to express myself that I feel there isn't a single song that doesn't pulse with emotion. The ability to let out the love or the frustration you have is pivotal to self preservation and growth, and LIPHT has allowed me to open those doors. Many of the words I write seem to be accusations, and even the name LIPHT suggests the alteration of an oppressed state. In fact it couldn't be more the opposite, I write about the self-oppressed and the emotional hypochondriacs. I truly hate "victims". You are the one who allows yourself to be hurt, oppressed and silenced. It was my realization that my lack of growth, (emotional, spiritual) was due to my self pity, and it made me mad. My music became my way to tell people to look inside and change what you don't like. LIPHT is my family and my voice, and will be until I'm too old to sing.

BandRanch

Thanks to everyone who came and made BandRanch such a blast this year. A big thanks to Darryl Bowers and the staff for running such a tight ship.

What a party! LIPHT had the honor of taking the stage with KillingLies and Portal, both bands were unreal. Chunk hammered out a great set as the moon rose. The weather tried to turn shitty but we didn't let it. Campfire entertainment was at it's best this year with my personal favorite improv song being "This tuna tastes like Bottle-nosed Dolphin." Saturday was frisbee all morning and beer for breakfast. My highlights were Future Echoes and Hollywood Assassyn on Saturday. Ian and Jay were still going hard when I woke up Sunday morning.

It was a great weekend and speaking for LIPHT I can say that we enjoyed ourselves immensely. I can't wait for next year.

Be good to each other!

OK, here's a little update from me. The CD is now being sent to mastering and we are very fortunate to have Q13 Designs building our CD artwork. I am very impressed with early designs I've seen. It's nice to have an artist designing their 'take' on our sound and I feel it will provide an eclectic and unique view of the message we bring. I am a supporter of artistic expression and I love when people receive their own personal message from music or art. I have tried to allow for this in the lyrics I write, and I'm glad the artist we are working with has emotion layered into the artwork.

The CD process is nearing completion and I can honestly say it was more than I expected to undertake. The amount of work that has gone into it is astounding. I consider LIPHT to be very blessed to have worked with Resonance Industries. I felt as though they moored themselves to us for the duration and made our concerns theirs. The experience was one of the best I've had, making us closer as a band and linking us to friends I believe we'll have for life.

I look forward to this summers shows and the release of this CD. We've made the diehards wait a long time and I am thankful they are so patient.

Peese and Ja bless.
Caleb.
