I started drumming to early influences Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins. Many of my friends were aspiring musicians and all of us were moved by the grunge swell of the early 90's. I wanted in. My Father is a very talented drummer and began to teach me when I was 14. High school saw the rise of the band Cheaper Than Rent, where I was drummer. The band was successful and focused for our age, and we were featured on local radio and television stations. The experience those years offered was priceless, and I loved playing to large crowds. I took music at Grant McEwan College, where I met more great musicians, and my desire to play kept growing. It was through music that I met my wife, and so many of our friends.
Influences changed to include bands like Soundgarden, Korn and Chevelle. LIPHT was born to accomodate the darker and heavier side of music we wanted to explore. I've been asked many questions about LIPHT and our stylings, and I still have to say we don't sound like anyone else. The only thing I write and play for is the audience. We decided long ago that our music would be for the people and I feel the same way today. I don't think you can come into music with an agenda, if you do you typecast yourself. My goal has always been to write from the heart and play every show like it's your last. I guess if that's my agenda...I'll take it.
